alert(‘Hello world!’);
Welcome to my website and thank you for stopping by!
Without getting too into the huffing and puffing of university and job hunting life, I wanted to take this time to tell all of you how life is for anyone in a similar position. This is my take on it from behind the humble view of my 2010 Macbook Pro and slightly overcrowded desk.
After months and months of unsuccessful job applications and over-the-phone interviews due to lack of experience, the one resounding and frustrating question we all ask ourselves persists:
How do we gain experience if no one will hire us?!
Generation after generation, career field after career field; it just never seems to get answered. Well, there is hope!
I have to admit it hasn’t been the best few months as a recent graduate, and, as imagined, it has taken a small toll on me. Companies today have so many qualified and even overqualified candidates to choose from, and it is not always the easiest to stand out. Of course, university advisors and online blogs tell you “to think outside-the-box” or “go out of your way to make a lasting impression.” All this information without any actual formula for success! The only thing I can say I have truly learned is that everyone’s approach needs no MUST be different. We are all different. Our personalities are all different. Our jobs are all different. Therefore, be different!
Fortunately, I am able to creatively pan the path of my own career, and in the last few weeks I have done just that. I went out and focused on what I truly enjoy from my career field to make my own experience. Today, I am so very excited to announce that I have officially completed and published my first official professional website for a client because of said approach and resilience.
With little to no experience, I was able to go out, find a client who trusted me enough with his company and brand, and build from the ground up a modern, fully functioning website.
With a newfound desire and drive, I am now scavenging the inter webs and social media outlets for my next clientele. Do not be afraid to go out and be different, your contrast will prove fruitful.
